A man accused of facilitating the murder of a Kinahan Cartel member at the Regency Hotel in Dublin has challenged the admissibility of garda interviews conducted without him being cautioned. Jason Bonney, from Portmarnock, is charged with providing access to vehicles used in the killing of David Byrne at a boxing weigh-in on 5 February 2016. During a voir dire at the Special Criminal Court, his barrister argued that Detective Garda Alan Crummey failed to administer a mandatory caution when questioning Bonney at his home on 21 February 2016, thereby contaminating subsequent detention and investigation. The prosecution countered that the initial exchange was informal and domestic rather than custodial, and that Bonney was not then a suspect. The three-judge court, presided over by Ms Justice Tara Burns with Judges Sarah Berkeley and Grainne Malone, will rule on the admissibility issue on Monday.
