A 38-year-old Chinese national pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to living under a false identity for eight years. The man obtained a Northern Irish birth certificate belonging to another person in 2009 and used it to secure an Irish passport under the name Sau Kee Lee. Using this false identity, he obtained a driving licence, taxi licence, Public Service Card and mortgage. The deception came to light in 2017 when he registered the birth of his second child under his real name while his first child had been registered under the false identity. His wife discovered the truth while pregnant with their second child. He also pleaded guilty to possessing an air rifle, ammunition, and a jumper and epaulettes resembling An Garda Síochána uniform, discovered during a search of his Blanchardstown address in November 2017. The court heard he had paid taxes and committed no offences during his years living under the false name. A Probation Service report was ordered, with the matter adjourned to July for sentencing.
