Men accused of false imprisonment and attack on Quinn Director get bail

The High Court has granted bail to two men charged with the false imprisonment and assault causing serious harm of Kevin Lunney, a director at Quinn Industrial Holdings, notwithstanding garda opposition. Luke O'Reilly, aged 66, from Kilcogy, County Cavan, and Darren Redmond, aged 25, from Dublin, are accused of offences committed at Ballinagh, County Cavan, on 17 September 2019. Mr Justice Paul Burns acknowledged the charges as extremely serious, characterising the alleged conduct as vicious and abhorrent, yet found the prosecution had fallen short of the requisite standard to refuse bail. Both men were subjected to stringent conditions including electronic monitoring, curfews, passport surrender, and geographical restrictions. O'Reilly was required to provide substantial financial sureties, whilst Redmond's bond was notably lower. Their trial, anticipated to commence in January 2021, is expected to last between eight and twelve weeks. Two further defendants face identical charges arising from the same incident.
