Two men appeared before the High Court on bail applications in connection with charges of false imprisonment and assault causing serious harm to Kevin Lunney, a director of Quinn Industrial Holdings. Luke O'Reilly, aged 66, from Mullahoran Lower, Kilcogy, County Cavan, and Darren Redmond, aged 25, from East Wall, Dublin, are accused of offences alleged to have occurred at Drumbrade, Ballinagh, County Cavan on September 17, 2019. Both men were remanded in custody at Portlaoise Prison and appeared via video-link. The State opposed bail on grounds that the accused posed flight risks and might interfere with the administration of justice. The defence argued there was insufficient evidence to justify bail refusal. Mr Justice Paul Burns adjourned his decision to the following morning. The men have been sent forward for trial to the Special Criminal Court, where proceedings are expected to span eight to twelve weeks.
