A man has been convicted and sentenced at the Central Criminal Court following a jury trial in February. He received 15 years imprisonment, with the final year suspended, for repeatedly raping and sexually assaulting his daughter at their home in County Mayo and at locations abroad between 2006 and 2010, when the victim was aged seven to eleven years old. Justice Deirdre Murphy described the offending as depraved. The court heard that since the conviction, an allegation has emerged that the complainant may have provided false evidence. A garda investigation into this matter is underway, though no evidence relating to the allegation was before the court during sentencing. The accused was convicted on three counts of rape, five counts of anal rape, and six counts of sexual assault. He maintains his innocence and has previous convictions for assault, including one involving the same victim.
