A 59-year-old businesswoman from Virginia, Cavan has been handed a three-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to harassing three former employees at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Helen Rahill sent 93 emails and made 660 calls over a ten-month period between January and October 2015, following the liquidation of her company in 2011. The former employees subsequently purchased the company's assets and continued operating the business. Rahill, who had initially accepted the arrangement, began contacting them in January 2015, sending messages ranging from complaints to abusive allegations. She briefly apologised in May 2015 but resumed the harassment despite receiving a solicitor's letter requesting she cease contact. Judge Martin Nolan noted Rahill's remorse and successful business background, finding no likelihood of re-offence. A non-contact order has been imposed as part of her sentence.
