Two brothers from Belturbet, County Cavan, have been ordered to perform 180 hours of community service following their conviction for theft at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. John McGinley, aged 25, stole €5,275 in cash, while his younger brother Conal McGinley, aged 22, took €3,370 while working behind the bar for Workers Beer Company at a music festival in Marlay Park, Dublin, on 8 July 2016. Both pleaded guilty to the single theft charge. Gardaí observed the men pocketing cash instead of placing it in the charity bucket, and substantial sums were recovered from their persons and vehicle. Judge Cormac Quinn imposed the community service order in lieu of eleven months' imprisonment, noting the brothers' education, family background, and the stigma and employment losses they had suffered. John McGinley had been working in London finance but faced gambling debts, while Conal was completing a business degree and acted to assist his brother. Both made immediate admissions when interviewed and have no previous convictions.
