At the Central Criminal Court, Dariusz Weckowicz has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Bogdan Michalkiewicz on 13 May 2013 at Westside Apartments in Letterkenny, County Donegal. His co-accused, Krzystof Grzegorski, has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter, a plea the State rejected. During garda interviews on 17 June 2013, Mr Weckowicz told officers he was drinking heavily and could recall only "flashbacks" of the day in question. When presented with CCTV evidence placing him in the area with Mr Grzegorski, he stated he was surprised by his presence there and could not explain it. Gardai noted blood found on his clothing and told him he must have been present when the deceased was killed. Mr Weckowicz maintained he would have intervened had he witnessed violence against his friend and denied knowledge of events. The trial continues before Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury.
