“Multi tasking” grandmother who kicked man on ground as she held onto pram gets suspended sentence

Michelle Conroy, aged 47, of Arch Court, Roscommon Town, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to violent disorder arising from an incident on Lower O'Connell Street, Dublin on 27 December 2012. Judge Desmond Hogan imposed a two-year sentence suspended in full for two years. Evidence indicated that Conroy repeatedly kicked a man on the ground while holding a pram containing a child during an altercation involving a group of five adults and two children. CCTV footage showed the victim was attacked after being pushed from a shop, with Conroy delivering at least eight kicks as he lay on the ground. The judge noted her blatant disregard for public safety, whilst a probation report assessed her as posing moderate re-offending risk. Conroy, who has fourteen previous convictions, initially failed to appear for sentencing and a bench warrant was issued before her subsequent arrest and appearance.
