Man who sexually assaulted teenager at Dublin airport ordered to undergo full psychiatric assessment

A 51-year-old man from Letterkenny, County Donegal, has been remanded in custody for sentencing following his guilty plea to sexual assault at Dublin Airport Terminal 2 on 10 April 2014. At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, the man pleaded guilty to assaulting a teenager in a public area of the terminal. The court heard that the incident occurred when the victim was waiting for a flight, after which the accused was arrested. A second sexual assault allegation at a city-centre location followed hours later, for which he received a suspended sentence. The judge expressed concern regarding the risk of further offences and ordered a full psychiatric assessment and updated probation report before sentencing in February 2015. The defence outlined personal difficulties the accused had experienced, including recent family bereavements and sleep deprivation. The man has remained in custody since his arrest, unable to meet bail requirements. He will receive full credit for time served upon sentencing.
