Dublin supporter who told garda he would 'loaf the head off her' escapes prison sentence

A 28-year-old Dublin man has avoided a custodial sentence after pleading guilty to threatening behaviour and intoxication at a public house in Swords on 22 September 2013. The accused was given 240 hours community service in lieu of a two-month prison term at Swords District Court. He admitted using threatening and abusive language toward a member of An Garda Síochána, violent conduct at Swords Garda Station, and refusing to provide his name and address. A garda gave evidence that the man had been asked to leave the premises due to intoxication, returned multiple times, and made threats toward police officers. The judge noted this was the defendant's second community service order and warned it represented his final opportunity. The defence indicated the man had consumed substantial alcohol whilst attending an All-Ireland final between Dublin and Mayo, and acknowledged his behaviour was inappropriate.
