A 35-year-old Polish national has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a Romanian man at an apartment in Cavan in October 2012. Przemyslaw Trebacz of Killynebber, Cavan faces a charge relating to the death of Costel Catalin Cretu at Connolly Court, Cavan. He has admitted guilty to criminal damage at the same location. During proceedings at the Central Criminal Court, evidence was heard that Mr Trebacz told gardai he stabbed Mr Cretu in self-defence, though he denied bringing a knife to the scene. He also stated he was to receive €74,000 from his mother's will. The State Pathologist found the deceased had two stab wounds, one to the chest proving fatal. Forensic examination of two knives recovered from the apartment found no blood transfer and no fingerprints. The trial continues.
