Two jailed for involvement in NCT scam

Outcome: Today at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Gerard Griffin imposed sentences of three years with two-and-a-half years suspended on Rooney and Richardson. He said a custodial sentence would greatly affect Rooney's life with his wife and two young children, as without his current wages they wouldn't be able to afford the mortgage. "He knows the risks he has put his family in and he is determined to live a blameless life from now on," Mr Fitzgerald submitted.; Judge Gerard Griffin adjourned the case last week after hearing the evidence.

Ambulance called after NCT scam accused slumps over during sentencing

Outcome: Stephen Rooney (37) had just been sentenced to a year in jail when he slumped over in the dock. Judge Griffin had imposed a three and half year sentence but had suspended the final two and half years after taking into account Rooney's co-operation with the garda investigation and remorse.; Judge Griffin adjourned sentencing all three men to March 6 next and remanded each of them on continuing bail after he said he felt it was necessary considering Rooney's "unfortunate ill health".
