Summary

Richard Satchwell, aged 58, told detectives he would not look at photographs of his wife Tina's body, saying he wanted to remember her as she was, not as he had made her. He claimed his wife, aged 45, had attacked him with a chisel, that he had fallen backwards, and that he had held her bathrobe belt at her neck until she became heavier. Gardaí questioned him about marks on plasterboard he said were left by a chisel, but he could not confirm their location. He also said the marks were not visible. Gardaí noted inconsistencies in his story and that his second account was starting to fall apart. The trial heard that Tina's body was found in a grave under the stairs of the couple's home in October 2023, after she had been reported missing in May 2017. Satchwell pleaded not guilty to her murder, which is alleged to have occurred between 19 and 20 March 2017.
