Summary

The jury in the trial of Richard Satchwell, who denies murdering his wife Tina, will continue deliberations into a fourth day. The panel of five men and seven women began considering their verdict at 3.05pm on Tuesday and have spent a total of eight hours and 37 minutes deliberating. They returned to the courtroom at 3.46pm today and a note was handed to the judge from the foreman stating the panel would cease deliberations for the evening and resume on Friday at 11.30am. Mr Justice Paul McDermott told the 12 jurors that there were three possible verdicts: guilty of murder, not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter, or not guilty. He explained the two routes to the not‑guilty‑of‑murder‑but‑guilty‑of‑manslaughter verdict, based on lack of intent or partial self‑defence.
