Summary

Richard Satchwell, aged 58, was re‑arrested on 12 October 2023 on suspicion of murdering his wife Tina Satchwell, aged 45, at their home on Grattan Street, Youghal, between 19 and 20 March 2017. In a statement to Gardaí he claimed that after Tina tried to stab him with a chisel, he fell and held her weight with the belt of her bathrobe until she became heavier, after which she died in his arms. He also said he buried her under the stairs because the area was not concreted and he was panicked. Gardaí discovered her decomposed remains in a grave dug beneath the stairs during an invasive search in October 2023. The trial is proceeding in the Central Criminal Court, with Mr Satchwell pleading not guilty to the murder charge.
