Date set for child-minder's retrial on charge of serious harm to infant
Summary
A retrial date has been set for a Cavan childminder charged with causing serious harm to an infant. Sandra Higgins, aged 36, of The Beeches, Drumgola Wood, Cavan town, denies intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to a baby at her home on 28 March 2012. Judge Karen O'Connor at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court scheduled the new trial to commence on 15 January 2018, with proceedings expected to last eight days. The previous jury was discharged after a juror accessed information online, and an earlier jury in 2015 failed to reach a verdict.
