Summary

In a trial at the Central Criminal Court, a 31‑year‑old Latvian named Andresj Krauze was accused of murdering 30‑year‑old Juris Buls in Galway on 7 or 8 July 2011. Buls, also Latvian, had not shown up for work at midnight and was later found dead in a drain near Glenamaddy. Krauze admitted the killing during an interview in a Latvian prison, where he demonstrated to Gardaí how he had killed Buls. He described a confrontation in which he claimed to have forced Buls' neck, found Buls dead, and then hid the body in a drain. The jury heard testimony from Garda Kevin Brennan, who had taken Buls' complaint, and from detectives Michael Kelly and Michael O'Driscoll, who interviewed Krauze in Riga. The trial is ongoing before Justice Margaret Heneghan. Andresj Krauze pleaded not guilty.
