Jury deliberating in trial of Latvian man accused of Galway murder
Summary
A jury has begun deliberating on the verdict in the trial of Latvian man Andresj Krauze, aged 31, who is accused of murdering fellow Latvian Juris Buls, 30, whose body was found in a drain in Galway. The alleged murder took place on an unknown date in July 2011. Krauze pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court. Justice Margaret Heneghan explained to the jury that there are three possible verdicts: guilty of murder, not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter, or not guilty. She outlined the criteria for each verdict, including the requirement that the prosecution prove beyond reasonable doubt that Krauze intended to kill or cause serious injury and was not acting in self‑defence. The jury, composed of six men and six women, has spent one hour and 24 minutes deliberating and will return to court tomorrow.
