A forensic scientist told the Special Criminal Court that she discovered blood inside a horse box at a yard in Ballinagh, Co Cavan during an examination in September 2019. Dr Yvonne O'Dowd of Forensic Science Ireland used luminol detection to identify the presence of blood to the right of the door and subsequently confirmed through laboratory testing that the blood was human. The yard at Drumbrade belonged to Luke O'Reilly, one of four men accused in connection with the abduction and assault of businessman Kevin Lunney. O'Reilly, Alan O'Brien, Darren Redmond, and a man referred to as YZ have all pleaded not guilty to false imprisonment and intentionally causing serious harm on September 17, 2019. The trial, heard before Mr Justice Tony Hunt with Judges Gerard Griffin and David McHugh, continues. Lawyers for the accused are challenging the admissibility of evidence relating to the yard and associated items.
