The Special Criminal Court is seeking a comprehensive probation report to address the radicalisation of a self-described jihadist who was inspired by terrorist organisation Isis when he set fire to a pub owned by Conor McGregor and later stabbed a garda on a Dublin street while shouting Allahu Akbar'. Ms Justice Karen O'Connor, presiding at the three-judge court, was expected to deliver a sentence today for 24-year-old Abdullah Khan. However, Ms Justice O'Connor said Khan will require "significant post-release supervision" and therefore the court wished to have the assistance of a probation report. She said the court is requesting a structured report from the probation service that will address Khan's radicalisation. To assist the service, Ms Justice O'Connor ordered that they be furnished with an expert report drawn up as part of the prosecution case. Ms Justice O'Connor adjourned the matter to July 13 for an update. Khan remains in custody. Khan, with an address in Dublin that cannot be published due to a court order, previously pleaded guilty to eight charges.
An actor who appeared on the crime drama series Love/Hate has been jailed for four years for a violent attempt to rob a café and for carrying out a later robbery of a convenience store while covered in blood. Leroy Harris (32) was stopped by gardaí and arrested for his own safety after being spotted in Dublin city with bloodstained hands. It was later discovered that he had just robbed a convenience store using a broken pint glass. Earlier that evening, Harris had attempted to rob a café by squeezing under the shutters and swinging a wine bottle at the owner, who managed to push him out. Harris pleaded guilty to the attempted robbery of the Flower and Bean Café and to the robbery of Day Today' convenience store. Garda Aidan Doyle stated that Harris told the café owner it was a robbery before swinging the bottle at him. The owner, who was with his wife and child at the time, was concerned for their safety and noted that Harris appeared intoxicated.
Convicted killer Derek Moore (aka Hutch), who was banned from the roads, high on drugs, driving at 158km/h and pulling wheelies on his motorbike when he struck a Ukrainian grandmother in Dublin city centre, leaving her with serious injuries, has asked a court to allow him complete a detox programme. Moore of Champions Avenue, Dublin 1 has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing serious harm to Valentyna Linck on May 27, 2022 at Amiens Street. Moore (42) also pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving and a count of driving under the influence of an intoxicant on the same date. Further counts of dangerous driving are to be taken into consideration by the court. Moore has 44 previous convictions, including those for manslaughter, assault causing serious harm, attempted robbery and possession of drugs. His previous convictions also include eight for dangerous driving and one for endangerment. He was disqualified from driving for five years at the time of this offence, the court was told.
Darren White, 49, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to 13 counts of cash robbery at Dublin City hotels between August and December 2005 and one count of robbery of a Londis shop in 2006. The validated procedural stage is an appeal. White had previously pleaded guilty to the first count in May 2007 and was granted bail, but he failed to appear for sentencing and travelled to the UK. He was apprehended in April 2025 following a road traffic matter. Judge Martina Baxter noted that White had rehabilitated, raised a family, and engaged in community work. She determined that a custodial term was not appropriate given the breadth of his rehabilitation. Judge Alec Gabbett accepted the appeal against the severity of the sentence. He suspended the three-month jail term for a period of 24 months, leaving the sentence hanging over the defendant. Rory Carr (22) and Bruno Tache (21) were sentenced to three years and six months in prison for their roles in separate attacks on Quham Babatunde, who died on St Valentine's Day. A Romanian national, Ionut Danca, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for killing a Canadian tourist, Neno Dolmajian, in Dublin city centre. An offender with a high risk of recidivism who was caught with and distributed videos of child sexual abuse has been jailed for three years and six months, with the final nine months suspended. Murilo Dos Santos (36) of North Circular Road, Dublin 1, pleaded guilty last year at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of images of child sexual abuse, known in law as child pornography, and to distribution of the material between November 18, 2020, and January 2021. Detective Garda Donagh Mannix told the court that a search of Dos Santos' home in Christchurch, Dublin, uncovered 66 videos on his phone, which were in contravention of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act. Dos Santos shared these videos with six others between October 2020 and November 2020, including one particularly graphic video involving a child aged between six and 12 months. Other videos involved children aged between eight and 12 years old, some engaged in sexual activity with adults. Gardaí also found that Dos Santos used a sharing app to distribute the material.
Izabella Aleksandrowicz, a 50-year-old woman from Swords, pleaded guilty to careless driving causing serious bodily harm after she ran over Andrew Brett, a cyclist, in Dublin City Centre. Brett, an experienced marathon runner, was crushed by the front and rear wheels of Aleksandrowicz's SUV as she made an illegal right-hand turn. He suffered severe injuries, including damage to his liver, internal bleeding, and a fractured pelvis. Brett described the accident as the worst day of his life and said he is still tortured by the sound of his breaking bones. He stated that the accident had a monumental impact on him and his family, changing his life forever. Aleksandrowicz remained at the scene and had a full Polish driving license with no alcohol or drugs in her system. The court heard that the road conditions were good and there were no obstructions. Judge Orla Crowe adjourned the case for sentencing and ordered a report from The Probation Service. Aleksandrowicz expressed her sincere apology and said she has been suffering from anxiety since the accident.
In the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, four men – Rory Carr, Bruno Tache, David Oloo Omee, and Sean Forde – pleaded guilty to various charges related to a series of violent incidents in Dublin City Centre on February 15, 2025. In a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court hearing on 6 February 2026, 32‑year‑old Martin McDonnell pleaded guilty to producing a knife and dishonestly appropriating a cigarette on Wellington Quay on 13 June 2024. The court heard that McDonnell, who has a history of violent incidents and a permanent scar from a past axe attack, approached a worker who had just finished a night shift at 8 am. Nathan Walsh and Lee Cunningham, both aged 29, have pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to charges arising from an assault on a man in Dublin City Centre on 23 May 2023. Eoghan Peavoy, a 54-year-old Dublin man with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, pleaded guilty to harassing a female barrister and another woman. The owner of a Dublin city head shop caught selling cannabis herb had a "mistaken belief" she wasn't breaking the law, a court has heard. Charlene Flynn (37) was present during the search and told gardai she was the owner of the shop, which was part of a franchise that also operated a premises in Cork city. She was arrested in September 2022 and interviewed. She told gardai that cannabinoid oil and CBD products, which she said were regulated under EU food law, were seized by gardai on the day of the search. Ms Flynn said that the products had a level of THC, the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis, of under 0.2 per cent and said that "to my knowledge the products are within the legal requirements". Flynn of Hollytree Square, Ballymun later pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of drugs for sale or supply at 'Funky Skunk' on June 2, 2022.
Megan Gaffey, 28, of Dublin 1, was sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after pleading guilty to two counts of robbery committed on May 22 and June 13, 2024, at a shop on the quays in Dublin City Centre. The court heard that Gaffey, who has 165 previous convictions, was on bail and serving a suspended sentence at the time of the offences. Christopher O'Neill has been sentenced to six years imprisonment at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court following his guilty plea to the manslaughter of Martin Lynn on 30 July 2023. An Indian business student, Rishabh Mahajan, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to four counts of offensive conduct of a sexual nature and one count of sexual assault.
