The diocese celebrates the feast of Saint Aiden, the first bishop of Ferns, who had close connections to the Diocese of Kilmore. Aiden was born on Inish Brechfe island in Templeport parish, County Cavan, in the mid-6th century. His parents had visited Drumlane Abbey in Cavan praying for a child before his birth. Aiden later studied under Saint Finnian of Clonard and Saint David in Wales before founding Ferns.
