Explosives accused faces new IRA membership charge
Summary
Patrick Brennan, 52, of Lindisfarne Avenue, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, was charged on 1 October 2015 with membership of an unlawful organisation styled the Irish Republican Army (IRA). He had previously been charged on 16 June with possession of explosives, specifically four 400‑gram blocks of TNT and three electric explosive detonators, which were found at Store Street, Dublin 1. The Special Criminal Court heard the new charge on 26 July. Detective Sergeant Padraig Boyce met Brennan in the court precincts, handed him a copy of the charge sheet and explained the proceedings. Brennan did not respond to questions, remained seated when asked to stand, and made no reply when asked to confirm his identity. He was remanded in custody by Justice Paul Butler, with Judges Alison Lindsay and Cormac Dunne, until 29 July when his case is scheduled for mention again.
