Man pleads not guilty to murder of mother and attempted murder of daughter

Summary

James Redmond, aged 60, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the murder of Mary Dargan and the attempted murder of her daughter Karina Dargan, both of whom lived with him at the Killinarden Estate in Tallaght. The alleged offences occurred on 15 March 2014. The Central Criminal Court has sworn in a jury of seven men and five women for a trial expected to last two to three days. Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy instructed the prosecution to provide brief information, noting that the Redmond and Dargan families had lived side by side for many years.
