Suspended sentence for serial burglar who broke into community centre

Summary

Anthony Connors, 40, pleaded guilty to burglary at the Daughter's of Charity Community Services in Dublin on 13 October 2015. He had been released from an eleven‑year sentence in September 2015 after a 2009 conviction for burglary, false imprisonment, robbery and handling stolen property. Connors had 47 prior convictions and had relapsed into drug use after release. Garda Aidan Noonan reported that an employee found a missing laptop, CCTV identified Connors acting suspiciously, and he was arrested the next day. Judge Karen O'Connor, after hearing evidence in May, noted his long history of custody and chronic drug addiction, but that he was now methadone‑free. She imposed a one‑year sentence, suspended it in full, and warned that failure to seek help would lead to more prison time. The case was heard at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
