Summary
During a murder trial, witness Filip Talaj testified that he had kicked the accused, Andrzej Wawrzyniak, in the chest, causing him to become unconscious. Talaj escaped and hid, hearing Wawrzyniak searching for him. The prosecution claims that while Talaj was hiding, Wawrzyniak used a knife to murder Jacek Kozakiewicz, a 44‑year‑old electrician, who was sleeping in a makeshift squat on Dublin's North Wall Quay on 26 February 2014. Wawrzyniak, 38, has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge but has pleaded guilty to a second count of assault causing harm to Talaj at the same location and date. The trial also heard statements from other squat residents, including Dariusz Wantura and Bernadetta Dang, about the living conditions and the night of the incident. The proceedings will continue before Justice Robert Eagar and a jury of nine men and three women.
