Summary
During a murder trial at the Central Criminal Court, the prosecution presented evidence that Andrzej Wawrzyniak, 38, who has no fixed address, was involved in a fatal stabbing at a derelict pub on Dublin's North Wall Quay on 26 February 2014. Wawrzyniak pleaded not guilty to the murder of Jacek Kozakiewicz, 44, but pleaded guilty to a second count of assault causing harm to Filip Talaj at the same location and date. The case was opened by Dominic McGinn SC, who described the setting: five Polish residents, including Wawrzyniak, were drinking in a squat that had formerly been a pub. Talaj fled, hiding in a dark corner, while Wawrzyniak remained concealed. After some time, Talaj emerged, armed with a knife for protection, and returned to his hiding place.
