Summary

A jury of one woman and eleven men has begun deliberations on the verdict in the trial of a 42‑year‑old man accused of raping, head‑butting and threatening to kill his wife. The accused had previously pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife with a hammer in August 2014. He denies the rape, head‑butting and threats, claiming the marriage was breaking down over the previous five months. The jury was instructed to start deliberations after a summary of evidence from Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy on day eleven of the trial. The unnamed 42 year old pleaded not guilty.
