"Highly trusted" man to be sentenced for sexual abuse of two boys
Summary
A 69‑year‑old man, a trusted figure in his Cork community, was remanded pending sentencing after pleading guilty to three counts of sexual abuse of two boys between January and May 1991. The younger victim, now 30, was five at the time and was abused in a camper van where the accused lured him with treats and performed oral sex. The older victim, now 40, was 14 when the accused asked him to drive a van home from a pub; while the boy sat on his lap, the accused ripped his trousers and molested him, causing the boy to lose control of the van. Both victims described the accused as a trusted community member. The court noted the accused's 48 prior convictions, including a four‑month sentence in England, and he remains in custody until a sentencing hearing on 2 July 2024.
