Eight life sentences for paedophile who raped girlfriend and her mother
Summary
At the Central Criminal Court, an unnamed 48-year-old Waterford man was sentenced to eight concurrent life terms for offences committed between July 2 and July 5, 2015, in Dublin. The defendant pleaded guilty to the rape of two women in various ways, as well as false imprisonment, attempted rape, aggravated burglary, making threats to kill, and aggravated sexual assault. Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy described the offences as "wholly exceptional" and among the most serious cases of their type he had encountered. The defendant's solicitor noted the client had insight into his offending and was awaiting psychological treatment in prison.
