Sex offender appears in court for failing to provide gardaí with current address
Summary
Kenneth Powell, 49, appeared before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after failing to give Gardaí his current address. He had been registered as a sex offender following a 2014 conviction for possession of child pornography, for which he received a three‑year sentence with the final year suspended. Powell had previously shared 92 images of children with Kevin Bowes, who also received the same sentence. The images depicted children aged under 10 to 17, some in school uniforms. Bowes had sent an image of a 12‑year‑old girl to a female acquaintance, who reported it to Gardaí, leading to the discovery of the images. Powell was convicted of failing to notify Gardaí of his address and the State is seeking to reactivate the suspended portion of his sentence. He intends to appeal the conviction to the Circuit Court. The case was remanded to the District Court for further hearing. Kenneth Powell pleaded guilty. Kevin Bowes pleaded guilty.
