Summary

David Ryan, 28, was jailed for three years after he took a six‑year‑old boy with Down syndrome from outside a shop on Liffey Street Upper on 11 June 2015. Ryan, who had no fixed abode and was described as "out of it", had taken the child, left him minutes later, and removed the boy's chicken nuggets. The boy had been with his parents at a hospital appointment before being taken to Burger King. Ryan abandoned the child in a buggy outside Arnotts, where a woman saw him pushing the buggy and called security. The boy was reunited with his father within 10–15 minutes. Ryan pleaded guilty to intentionally or recklessly taking the child without consent, and the court noted his 112 previous convictions and severe addiction problems.
