Witnesses tell burglary trial they were assaulted with slash hook

Summary

During a burglary trial, Edward O'Reilly, the alleged victim, recounted that on 11 May 2013, he, his sister and Michael McDonagh were asleep in a house on Deansrath Avenue, Clondalkin, when a group of men broke in. He claimed the accused, Edward Charles O'Reilly (29), struck him twice on the head with a slash hook, and another man hit him on the back of the legs with an iron bar. McDonagh said he was slapped in the face and told to "stay awake." O'Reilly said he fell unconscious after the hook blows. He also denied the accused's two assault charges. The accused pleaded not guilty to burglary and the assault charges. The case is before Judge Karen O'Connor and a jury of eight women and four men. The trial continues.
