Man who admitted role in killing Adil Essalhi to be sentenced in April

Summary

A 22-year-old man who admitted to manslaughter in connection with a fatal stabbing will be sentenced in April at the Central Criminal Court. Michael Kinsella, with addresses in Tallaght and Cavan, pleaded guilty to the unlawful killing of Adil Essalhi, who died on January 6, 2011, following an attack in which he sustained over 50 stab and chop wounds. The Director of Public Prosecutions accepted the plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter. At a hearing on February 16, 2016, the court ordered that psychological reports prepared by the defence be disclosed to the prosecution, and granted permission for a prosecution psychiatrist to assess Mr Kinsella prior to sentencing. The defence indicated its client would cooperate with this evaluation. Justice Deirdre Murphy adjourned the sentencing hearing to April 11, 2016. Mr Kinsella's uncle, Wayne Kinsella, was previously convicted of Mr Essalhi's murder in 2012.
