A 45‑year‑old man named Stephen Hendrick, from Balbutcher Drive, Ballymun, Dublin 11, was arrested in July 2014 at a yard in Cloghran by the Special Detective Unit and the Crime and Security Section during investigations into dissident republican activity. He was charged at an out‑of‑hours sitting of the Special Criminal Court on 3 July with membership of an unlawful organisation, the Irish Republican Army (IRA), and with possession of ammunition in suspicious circumstances at Furry Park, Turnapin Great, Old Airport Road, Cloghran. His solicitor, Michael Finucane, requested a trial date. Counsel for the State, Mr Garnet Orange BL, estimated the trial would last five days. Judge Paul Butler set the trial for 14 April 2015, instructing Hendrick, who is on bail, to notify the prosecution within 14 days if he intends to rely on an alibi and to give notice 21 days before the trial if he wishes to call witnesses.
