Summary

Jason Malone, 33, was found with keys to two cars and various drug paraphernalia, including a Centra bag and a phone. Gardaí searched the cars and recovered a kilogram of white powder identified as caffeine, lignocaine and phenacetin, substances used to bulk cocaine, as well as a plate, spoon and hotel card key with traces of heroin. Malone pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of caffeine, lignocaine and phenacetin with traces of cocaine. He has 31 previous convictions. Judge Melanie Greally sentenced him to three-and-a-half years, suspending the final year on strict conditions, noting that he was clearly involved in drug dealing at the time but may now be prepared to put his offending behind him. The case was prosecuted by Elva Duffy BL. Patrick Marrinan SC defended Malone, citing his difficult upbringing, lack of employment and recent rehabilitation efforts.
