A Somali man who used diplomatic passports to illegally bring several women into the State has been jailed for four and a half years. Abdallatif Mohamed (40), who had no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to four counts of assisting in the unlawful entry of persons into the State. The court heard that Mohamed used genuine Somali diplomatic passports to bring two women into the country at Dublin Airport in 2024. The women were not the same as those depicted in the passports, and Mohamed was found with their genuine passports and a significant amount of cash. The women confirmed that they had paid Mohamed to bring them to the country, with one paying $14,000 and the other $15,000. Mohamed claimed he was acting under pressure to help his family, but the court found no evidence to support this. Judge Dara Hayes noted that the use of diplomatic passports was an aggravating factor and that the operation was for profit.
