Special Criminal Court hears of car bomb abandoned outside Dublin hotel

Summary

In a Special Criminal Court hearing, Gardai alleged that Samuel Devlin, 55, a Northern Ireland man, was a bomb maker for the IRA and possessed PETN at his address in Finnstown House Hotel, Lucan. The prosecution claimed Devlin used a false name to book a Golf Suite chalet at the hotel, where an explosive substance was found. Detective Sergeant Padraig Boyce reported that on the morning of the alleged offence a car bomb had been abandoned outside the hotel. He entered the chalet with the Emergency Response Unit, saw items he believed were for improvised explosive devices, and arrested Devlin, who was then taken to Lucan Garda station. Devlin denied possession or control of explosives during Garda interviews. The trial continues. Samuel Devlin pleaded not guilty.
