Explosives trial hears of forced entry in to golf chalet
Summary
In a Special Criminal Court hearing, Samuel Devlin, aged 55, pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession of an explosive substance (PETN) at his address in the Golf Suite of Finnstown House Hotel, Lucan, on 11 May 2014. The prosecution alleged that Devlin booked the chalet under a false name and that an explosive was found there while he was staying. Forensic evidence from Dr Thomas Hannigan showed that three samples of white plastic cord seized from the chalet contained PETN. Earlier testimony from hotel staff confirmed that a man named Joe Murphy had booked a long‑stay in the Golf Suite in late March 2014. Detective Garda Patrick Casey reported that Special Detective Unit members forced entry into the chalet on the morning of the alleged offence, where they saw a man who is now known to be Devlin.
