Explosive accused's passport found in same room as detonator cords, trial hears

Summary

During a Special Criminal Court hearing, Gardaí seized detonator cords and a remote‑controlled quad‑copter from a hotel room in Lucan, where Samuel Devlin, 55, was accused of unlawfully possessing PETN. The search also uncovered an Irish passport, a Social Welfare Card, a Social Welfare payment receipt, a bank card and an HSE medical card, all bearing Devlin's name. The prosecution alleges that Devlin booked the Finnstown House Hotel chalet under a false name and was residing there at the time of the alleged offence. Defence counsel Bernard Condon SC objected to all evidence and requested a voir‑dire to determine its admissibility, noting that the evidence might be reported. The trial continues with the court considering the admissibility of the evidence presented. Samuel Devlin pleaded not guilty.
