Man who accepted cannabis delivery jailed
Summary
Alan Tighe, 38, was jailed for five and a half years after authorities seized €700,000 worth of cannabis and cocaine. The drugs were hidden in air compressors and a van. Tighe was arrested when Gardaí, alerted by customs, intercepted a delivery of air compressors and found the cannabis, then later discovered the cocaine in a van. He pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for sale or supply at Centre Point Business Park on 17 October 2023 and at an underground car park in Tallaght on 18 October 2023. Tighe has prior convictions for road traffic offences. The judge noted his addiction and debt‑related duress, his early guilty plea and family background, and imposed concurrent sentences of five and a half years, deviating from the mandatory 10‑year term. The court heard that Tighe's role was not sophisticated and that he had no signs of wealth. The defence highlighted his addiction, debt, and cooperation.
