Youth "jabbed" stranger in buttock with knife "for no apparent reason"

Summary

In a 2014 incident at Show Nightclub, Tallaght, a 19‑year‑old named Ciaran Meleady stabbed a stranger in the buttock with a knife, claiming the victim had also been stabbed. No prior interaction existed. Meleady, who had eight prior road‑traffic convictions and was taking medication for depression, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm. The victim required steri‑strips and antibiotics. Judge Melanie Greally described the act as occurring "for absolutely no apparent reason," citing possible alcohol‑medication interaction and the recent death of Meleady's grandmother. She sentenced him to 18 months, suspended in full for two years. The knife was not recovered and the assault was not captured on CCTV, though footage showed Meleady standing behind the victim before the attack.
