Woman on trial for allegedly assaulting partially paralysed woman during burglary

Grace Tormey, 22, is on trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for aggravated burglary and assault at Rollins Villas, Sallynoggin, on 16 November 2012. She pleaded not guilty. According to the trial, Lisa Lee, a partially paralysed woman who had suffered a stroke, was asleep in a downstairs bedroom when she heard banging on the front door at about four a.m. Lee and her partner Jason Kelly barricaded themselves in an upstairs bedroom. Lee reported that voices shouted threats and that men entered the house. Lee said a man and a woman, who identified themselves as Grace Tormey and an unnamed male, attacked her by kicking and punching. Lee claimed the attacker used a knife and smashed a wine bottle over her head, and that Tormey pulled lumps out of her hair. Lee was bleeding with facial injuries when Garda Garvin Alan arrived.
