Two men to be sentenced for their roles in prison attack
Summary
Two men, Niall Carey (28) of Hyde Road, Ballinacurra Weston, and Daniel Martin (30) of Brookview Gardens, Tallaght Dublin, are to be sentenced for their roles in an attack at Wheatfield Prison on January 21, 2013. Both pleaded guilty to violent disorder at the prison and Carey also pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Noel Murray during the same incident. The charges were admitted, and both men have pleaded guilty. A third man, Stephen Seery (34) of Ballyogan Vale, Carrickmines, Dublin, was last year sentenced to six months imprisonment for violent disorder at the prison during the same incident. The case is at the sentence stage. Judge Patricia Ryan adjourned both men's cases until March and ordered probation reports. Carey has 40 previous convictions and is due for release in June. Martin has 47 convictions and was released last August. The matter was adjourned and no sentence has been imposed yet.
