Pakistani man faces possible life sentence for rape of Down Syndrome woman
Summary
The Central Criminal Court began the sentencing hearing for Faisal Ellahi, 34, who was convicted by a jury in December of rape and sexual assault of a woman with Down's syndrome. The jury had seen DVDs of the victim's interview, where she described being separated from her mother on the street and then taken to Ellahi's house, where the assault occurred. Ellahi pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court will consider an impact statement from the victim's mother while the victim watches via video link. The sentencing could impose up to life imprisonment.
