Trial over alleged €7.2 billion conspiracy delayed
Summary
The trial of former Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Life and Permanent executives, including Denis Casey, Willie McAteer, Peter Fitzpatrick and John Bowe, has been postponed to the following Wednesday. The defendants are charged with conspiring to mislead investors by using interbank loans to inflate Anglo's value by €7.2 billion between 1 March and 30 September 2008. They have all pleaded not guilty. An expanded jury of 15 was sworn in at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and the case is expected to last about five months. The hearing will feature testimony from 14 Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation officers, former Anglo staff and employees of Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Scotland and RBC Capital Bank London. The trial will proceed after the jury's rescheduled return.
