Veteran Shanahan's chef who was left without wages wins €6k
Summary
A sous chef at Shanahan's on the Green in Dublin has been awarded nearly €6,000 by the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) for unpaid wages, notice pay, and holiday entitlements following the restaurant's closure in October 2024. Piotr Fraszczyk, who worked at the restaurant since 2010, claimed he was not given six weeks' notice of termination as required by law, nor was he compensated for accrued annual leave. The adjudicator noted that the employer had initiated a redundancy process, which the chef disputed. In addition to the €5,950 awarded by the WRC, Fraszczyk also received a statutory redundancy payment of €17,160. Separately, the WRC ruled in favor of a culinary arts student, Christian Hyland, who was not paid for work he performed at The Neighbourhood restaurant after completing an internship.
