Summary

Niall Butler, 41, pleaded guilty in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of cannabis resin for sale or supply after police seized over €140,000 of cannabis from his rented room at The Pines, Lehaunstown Lane, Cabinteely, on 2 September 2015. Garda Ivor Scully reported that officers, acting on confidential information, entered the premises at 7.30 am and announced a search. Butler, who was in the kitchen with others, initially refused to give his details and told the officers to "fuck off". He then grabbed a Garda's jumper with a closed fist and refused the search, before being restrained and the search continued. Police found 24.5 kg of cannabis in bags inside a wardrobe in Butler's bedroom, valued at €147,000. Butler said he had been holding the drugs for someone else to repay a drug debt and would not disclose the creditor's identity for his own and his family's safety.
