Summary

A 40‑year‑old married Kerry man was found guilty of threatening a sex worker to withdraw criminal allegations against him. He sent texts and emails calling her a whore and threatening to expose her as a prostitute to her family and neighbours if she did not drop the charges. The woman, who was working as an escort, had met him in a hotel after arranging a "girlfriend experience" on the Escorts Ireland website. After he left, she reported him to the Gardaí, who began identifying him. He used pseudonyms and unregistered phones, but investigators traced 250 IP addresses and CCTV footage to confirm his identity. He pleaded not guilty, but a jury convicted him of two counts of threatening or putting a witness in fear. Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy adjourned sentencing to January, remanding him in custody until then.
