Father banned from school after alleged bringing 'guns' remark loses racial profiling claim

Summary

Biyi Jacob Abiola, a father, was banned from his children's school after an incident on 29 September 2023 in which he entered the premises unannounced, shouted at staff, kicked doors and filmed the disruption. He claimed the principal had told him his children did not want to leave with him, and he allegedly remarked that "people like you make people bring guns into school." The school, under an Education and Training Board, subsequently issued a permanent ban. Abiola's claim of racial profiling and discrimination under the Equal Status Act 2000 was rejected by the tribunal. The adjudicator found his behaviour threatening and aggressive, and that the ban was a lawful, objectively legitimate response to his breach of school rules.
